Adding a new doorknob to your front door or any interior can bring a sense of bling to your house as well as provide extra security. Installing one is a simple task that you can do yourself. Here are the steps to putting in a new knob.
Remove the Old Knob
Head to the hardware store to find the new knob that you want. You might want to consider one from an engineered brass company that will be durable and look great. When you return home, unscrew the old doorknob from the door you wish to replace. You should only need a screwdriver to do this. The knob will come free from both sides of the door. Once it is off, use the tool to take the latch plate on the edge of the door off also.
Replace With the New Knob
Swap out the latch plate with the one that came with your new doorknob. Make sure you have the keyhole on the side of the door that you want it on. Thread the inside of the new knob through the hole in the door until it sticks out the other side. Be certain that the latch plate and both sides of the doorknob line up the way you need them to so that they work together correctly. Carefully attach the other side of the knob to it and screw them together. You may need to use an Allen wrench for this so check the packaging to see if one is provided. Once it is secure, test out the doorknob to make sure that it functions properly and make adjustments if it is needed. You will also want to try out a key if one comes with the new package and the turn lock on the inside of the door.
